Project Overview

As well as a traditional windows and curtain walling, the client wanted to wrap the rooflight package up under one umbrella. RED were able to source a modular system which overcame the drainage, weather rating and interfaces issues traditionally associated with older rooflight and slope glazed systems. This was the start of our relationship with modular rooflight supplier – VITRAL – who were then to become a key supply chain partner over the following years.

This new secondary school in close proximity to our Wirral head office was specifically developed to help elevate a growing need for additional student places in the region. Purpose-built as part the ‘Building Schools for the Future’ scheme it was designed to accommodate 1200 pupils. This academy has enjoyed a growing reputation and is widely respected in the area.

This was a great job alongside a terrific site team with Kier. It’s always good to do work within our local community and this project will always be remembered as our introduction to the VITRAL rooflight systems.

Design

The innovative design of the building utilised lots of natural light to enhance the student environment. The rooflights allowed the be filled with natural daylight giving a spacious and airy feel to the building.

The main curtain walling façade was of particular significance to the overall architectural theme incorporating a ‘staggered’ transom design to present a distinctive look.
