Balancing strict planning conditions with high performance engineering presented a dual challenge. Because of the site’s location within the Whitworth Street Conservation zone, the facade required slim sight lines that remained sympathetic to Manchester’s industrial past. Compounding this aesthetic brief was the site’s proximity to an elevated railway line. This required the glazing package to achieve stringent acoustic performance to isolate train noise, while simultaneously utilising advanced technology to mitigate external solar glare from the towers.
By engaging early with the client & combining digital modelling with physical prototyping, we managed to eliminate design risk early on, ensuring the slim profile sight lines integrated seamlessly into the building’s overall envelope.
