Project Overview

Working alongside our lifetime partners, Willmott Dixon once again, this major education scheme utilised all our specialist track record experience within the sector.

Part of Liverpool John Moores University’s estates masterplan, the transformation of the Tithebarn Building has created a state-of-the-art education facility for students starting their careers in healthcare.

Home to the School of Nursing, Allied Health and Avril Robarts Library, the project involved significant upgrades to the entire facility. The entire building was extended, with the library undergoing a complete refurbishment to provide specialist practice simulation suites, refurbished teaching rooms, staff accommodation and modern study and social spaces.

The Challenge

The complex nature of the project required a 2-stage tender process, meaning early involvement was crucial in terms of developing a robust solution and accurate budget. By collaborating closely from the pre-construction phase onwards, we were able to effectively de-risk the project and provide a fair & realistic price in stage 2.

The Solution

At stage 2, we commenced design way ahead of traditional timescales. This ensured we could design the correct details early in the process & get everything priced accurately. This enabled us to lock in prices at an early stage & give cost assurances to the team at Willmott’s. Ultimately, we delivered the scheme on time & on budget which resulted in a very happy client!

It was a pleasure to work with RED Systems on the LJMU Tithebarn project. They worked in collaboration with our team from Pre-Construction right up to completion of their works on site.

Gary & the team completed the works to the highest standards of both H&S & Quality ensuring that there was no defects at handover. The detail in planning of the works from RED Systems made it easy for the install team to complete their works safely and ahead of programme completion.

It was my first experience of working with RED Systems and since that project the legacy they have left behind has gained them further works with WDC due to their very proactive approach – how they work with our team from early in pre-construction right up to handover & the very high standards they set themselves from both H&S and Quality.
