Isle of Man Ferry Terminal

Project Overview

We were delighted to be selected as the glazing / curtain walling partner for this landmark scheme in our home city of Liverpool.

An iconic building on Liverpool’s world-famous waterfront, the redevelopment of the Isle of Man Ferry Terminal has been an extremely rewarding project for us here at RED.

The impressive new terminal is located on Princes Half-Tide Dock, nearly 700m downriver of the original Pier Head facility.

Said to be the oldest continuously operating passenger shipping company in the world, the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company have been providing a vital connection between the island and mainland since 1830.

Design

The Isle of Man Government wanted the building to represent the gateway to the island, so the low profile building needed to be a light and airy environment. The first floor features full-height glazing, while the ground floor incorporates zinc cladding in keeping with the nautical theme.

RED installed 900m2 of Technal MXM52 structurally glazed curtain walling. Designed by architect The Manser Practice, the new terminal includes a riverside footbridge which links the terminal to a proposed hotel, set to be built to serve both the Isle of Man terminal and the nearby cruise liner terminal.
